The following is a range of indicative reference prices for normal monthly expenditure:
Water: prices vary according to the municipality. Using Lisbon as the benchmark, rates vary according to levels of
consumption:
- up to 5 m3/month: EUR 0.1530 / m3
- from 6 to 20 m3/month: EUR 0.5754 / m3
- more than 20 m3/month: EUR 1.3460 / m3
Electricity: EUR 0.1211/ kWh, EDP - BTN rates up to 20.7 kVA
Natural gas: EUR 0.0634 / kWh, BP rates, for consumption of 221–500 m3/year (1 m3 = 11.511 kWh)
Fuel: prices in Portugal are adjusted in line with changes in the price of a barrel of oil, and differences may be found on the market. The current minimum and maximum prices are given below:
- 95 octane petrol (litre): from EUR 1.064 to EUR 1.159
- Super Plus petrol (litre): from EUR 1.124 to EUR 1.372
- Diesel (litre): EUR 0.849 to EUR 0.939.
Food and drink in the supermarket: since prices vary considerably, the average minimum and maximum prices are indicated for certain products in a normal shopping basket:
- Milk (1 litre): EUR 0.67 to EUR 1.00
- Bread (1 Kg): EUR 1.55 to EUR 2.30
- A dozen eggs: EUR 1.58 to EUR 1.88
- Meat (pork, 1 Kg): EUR 4.50
- Fish (cod, 1 Kg): EUR 9.98 to EUR 12.98
- Oranges (1 Kg): EUR 1.20 to EUR 1.40
- Apples ("golden", 1 Kg): EUR 1.25 to EUR 1.80
- Beer (0.5 litre): EUR 0.75 to EUR 1.29
- Coca-Cola (0.5 litre): EUR 0.89 to EUR 0.95
Leisure / Free time
- Cup of coffee (bica [expresso]): EUR 0.55 to EUR 0.80
- Cinema ticket: EUR 5.50 to EUR 6.00
- Theatre ticket: EUR 10.00 to EUR 30.00
- Big Mac (McMenu): EUR 4.25
