What is your learning style for studying a foreign language? Have you changed your approach since learning to speak Portuguese? I usually like to use a few textbooks until I'm comfortable with the language and have a decent knowledge of verbs and other words.

I'm a native portuguese speaker, so I can't say about learning Portuguese, but I've learnt English, Spanish, Italian, Greek, and Japanese. I always like to start with a textbook and after finishing it I browse the web and use chat rooms (and recently webcams and MMOs) to practice the language. For Japanese, which I've started to learn recently, I'm using Rosetta stone and I love it.

You know Japanese? That's great! I've been studying it, too! I have never liked using software to help with my language study. (I suppose I am a little old-fashioned.) After I get a good grasp of a language, I start to interact with native speakers and other learners of the language.

I usually get someone to teach me the language. It is better to have someone who knows the language well and can speak it fluently to teach you. Some languages have different meanings with different inflections on the pronunciation.
