In Portugal driving is on the right-hand side of the road, so you are advised to take special care, especially at junctions and roundabouts.
The roads are well sign-posted and the speed limits for cars on the motorway is
120 Km/h and 90 Km/h outside the town limits and 40 or 50 Km/h inside the town limits.

The alcohol level in the blood should not exceed 0.5 grams/litre – if the level is above this, it is punishable with a very severe fine and confiscation of the driving licence.
During the Summer Holidays the roads can become very congested, so please take extra care during this busy period, especially be aware that zebra crossings are usually located very close to roundabouts and sometimes are difficult to spot when the road-markings have faded.

The use of mobile phones while driving is not permitted unless with a suitable hands-free kit.
